From the NYMEX trading floor to Bloomberg, CNBC, and three books — Dan Dicker has spent his career turning deep market expertise into clear, actionable intelligence.
Dan Dicker joined the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange after graduating from SUNY Stony Brook, where he traded his own accounts in energy futures for more than 20 years — crude oil, natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. He was one of the most active independent traders on the floor during the defining era of the modern energy markets.
His deep understanding of energy markets gave him unique insights into the entire energy sector — exploration & production, refining, midstream, and energy credit. Earlier in his career, Dan designed and supervised the introduction of the NYMEX PJM electricity futures contract, which became the basis of NYMEX's resurgence in clearing power market contracts.
As a licensed Commodity Trading Adviser, Dan is widely recognized for his expertise in fundamental and technical analysis — supply and demand statistics, CFTC trade reportage, volume and open interest, and multiple charting methodologies including Elliott Wave and Bollinger Bands.
After leaving the floor, Dan built a second career as one of the most recognized energy market voices in financial media — writing for TheStreet, RealMoney, and Oilprice.com for over 15 years while appearing regularly on Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, and ABC News. He published three books on energy markets, with his debut, Oil's Endless Bid, named Bloomberg BusinessWeek Best Business Book of the Year.
Starting in 2002, Dan appeared regularly as an energy analyst across every major financial news network. He was a senior columnist at TheStreet.com and RealMoney.com and a contributor at Oilprice.com for more than 15 years — one of the most prolific energy market voices in financial journalism.
"One of the most insightful voices in energy markets — a trader's trader with a writer's clarity."
